About KayaRetire
KayaRetire works out the tax on retirement lump sums, the income and tax from a living annuity, and the tax on two-pot savings withdrawals, for South Africans. It is part of KayaWise.
Why "KayaRetire"?
"Kaya" is South African slang for home. Retiring well starts with knowing what your savings will actually pay, after SARS has taken its share, without a sales pitch attached.
Where our figures come from
- SARS: the retirement and withdrawal lump sum tax tables, income tax tables and rebates for 2026/27, the two-pot tax directive rules and Notice 7289 on the R150 000 and R360 000 thresholds.
- National Treasury: the two-pot retirement system FAQ (savings, retirement and vested components, and seed capital).
- The Minister of Finance's Government Notice 290 of 2009, which sets the 2.5% to 17.5% living annuity drawdown limits.
- Every rule in our code records its source link and the date we checked it, and each page shows those sources.
- Last full review: 30 October 2026.
What we are not
KayaRetire gives general information only. It is not financial, tax or investment advice as defined in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act, and we are not an authorised financial services provider. We never recommend a product, fund, provider or drawdown rate. We are not connected to SARS, National Treasury, the FSCA or any retirement fund or insurer.
For advice about your own situation, speak to an authorised financial adviser (you can check an adviser's licence with the FSCA), your fund or SARS.
How the site is funded
The site is free and shows clearly labelled display advertising. We do not use affiliate or referral links, we are not paid by any fund, insurer or adviser, and adverts never change a result.
